Pratt’s unique seat design
Utilizes 3 tongue and groove connection points to the valve body. Seats remain secure and stable even under high dead-end pressure. The center tongue not only locks the seat in place, but allows rubber material to flow into the center body groove when cycling the valve, drastically reducing the operating torque.
Pratt’s BF Series bottom cap
Provides lower stem retention and also creates a secondary stem journal seal preventing external leakage to atmosphere.2"–12" lower shafts ride on a precision wear guide reducing shaft drag.

A solenoid is needed for a butterfly valve actuator to provide automated on/off control of the fluid flow. The solenoid acts as an electro-mechanical switch, using an electromagnetic coil to control the actuator, which in turn opens or closes the valve without manual intervention. This allows for quick response times and integration with automated systems like PLCs and sensors.

LUG STYLE VALVE
- Installation: Has threaded lugs for individual cap screws to attach to each flange, allowing it to be used in dead-end service.
- Pressure: For use in low to moderate pressure applications, less than 230 psig, such as water systems, chemical and food processing with a more robust construction than the wafer style.
- Maintenance: Easily disassembled for seat replacement.
- Suitability: Ideal for situations requiring maintenance without removing the valve.

A gear operator provides higher torque for large-diameter or high-pressure applications, making the valve easier to open and close. The gear mechanism multiplies the input force, which reduces the physical effort required by the operator and allows for more precise control of the valve's position. This also enhances safety by enabling slow, controlled operation to prevent water hammer effects and locking the valve securely in place.

A lever handle is used in smaller valves (<10”) for quick, simple, and visual operation, as the handle allows the internal disc to be rotated 0-90 degrees to open or close the valve, or placed in an intermediate position with a 10-position notch plate. The lever position provides a clear indicator of the valve's open or closed status.
